SUBJECT: ICELAND: RESPONSE TO IRISL DEMARCHE
REF: STATE 016220
ΒΆ1. (SBU) Post delivered points in reftel to Petur Thorsteinsson
in the Directorate for External Trade and Economic Affairs at the
Icelandic Ministry of Foreign Affairs on January 23. Thorsteinsson
thanked Emboff for the information regarding the Islamic Republic of
Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) and Hafiz Darya Shipping (HDS). He said
that the Government of Iceland intends to fully implement the
provisions of UNSCR 1803 and will remain vigilant regarding IRISL
attempts to enter Icelandic ports. Thorsteinsson further stated
that he would send a notification letter to Icelandic insurance
agencies about this matter. They will be properly warned, he said,
regarding possible attempts by IRISL or HDS to obtain liability
insurance coverage.
